Shaquille Armstrong joins Stingers football team

Gerry McGrath, head coach of the Concordia University football team, is pleased to announce defensive end Shaquille Armstrong has signed a letter of intent committing to the Stingers.

The six-foot-two, 275-pound athlete has represented Sturgeon Heights Collegiate Institute, the Winnipeg Rifles and the St. James Rods, all in his native Winnipeg.

Armstrong was named the defensive MVP in the 10th annual Senior Bowl in Winnipeg last May. The Senior Bowl is an all-star contest featuring graduating high school players and midget athletes.

He has also been a mainstay with the Manitoba provincial program. He was a member of the U17 team in 2007 and the U19 team in 2008 and 2009. Armstrong quickly attracted the Stingers’ attention with his play in the Canada Cup.

McGrath considers the young end a major acquisition for the Stingers. He is impressed with both Armstrong’s size and mobility.
