    Default [email protected] 2021 Season?

Gee-Gees Field shares its Lees Av. site with five old buildings which uOttawa inherited from Algonquin College. In September major activity started on the site. All five buildings were supposed to be retrofitted, but now uOttawa has decided to tear down three of them and build a modern five story building for the Faculty of Health Sciences. The remaining two old buildings will be retrofitted. The Gee-Gees dressing rooms, coaches offices meeting rooms are housed in a building closest to the field.

The current construction schedule indicates that the above rooms will be inacessible in the autumn of 2021 and thus the Gee-Gees will not be able to play there. The rumour is that uOttawa will try to make a deal with OSEG to have the team play at TDPlace.Hopefully, the construction will be completed on time and the team can return to Gee-Gees field for the 2022 season.

A rendering of the new building:

Founded in 1848, the University of Ottawa adopted its official colours Garnet and Grey, and like many nineteenth-century institutions, the athletics teams were known only by the school's colours. Eventually, a connection was made between the shorthand "GGs" and "Gee-Gee", the common British nickname for a racehorse. The unique Gee-Gees name and iconic logo known today is a result of 170 years of history in Ottawa
