The McGill law professor doesn't raise the issue in this piece but I have to wonder if keeping campuses closed and utilizing online learning doesn't send the message that campus life is not essential.

It would be easy to imagine online degrees becoming much more acceptable, much more common and much cheaper. Universities with huge investments in bricks and mortar would suffer if there is a permanent shift in the long run.
