Default X-Men's New Field Taking Shape

July 28, 2009
Antigonish, Nova Scotia

Two Four Times
Special Assignment

Crews are busy working this morning paving the track area in preparation for the installation of an 8 lane, 400 metre track surrounding the site for the new Sportexe Momentum artficial grass surface.

http://141.109.15.178/en/AViewerJ.html

2 1/2 " artificial grass blades with a 30% silicate and 70% rubber pellet base will make up the soft, yet fast, gridiron which will also serve as a soccer, rugby and lacrosse pitch.

The track surface will be a 1" rubber track and should be installed within 21-28 days of the completion of the paving process.

Lighting will be provided by only 4 banks of lights although the main project engineer for StFX assures sportsfans that one would "be able to read a book at centre field" when all lights are at full power.

It's supposed to arrive tomorrow according to the 'big' guy! But....some of it arrived today!!! The end zones are definitely blue!! Several rolls of turf and other equipment are in the parking lot by Bloomfield Centre.

The second paving takes place tomorrow and they turf crew starts laying tomorrow. They are just lining things up today.

Our goats wouldn't die. How do you think we got the re-cycled asphalt to lay as a base for the entire project! We are conservationists don't you know!!! Thanks for the pictures two four. Different angle really nice.

you're welcome. They are putting the second and final surface on the track area. Rolls of turf are in the Bloomfield parking lot.

The turf crew is working over there for now until the paving is finished...which will be today...on the hottest two days of the summer so far. It's brutally hot on the paving surface right now.

At almost 5 pm ADT it is 34.5 C or 94 F...imagine what it would be like paving on that surface. Standing close to it was incredibly hot! The paving crew deserves their pay!

two four, you are going beyond the call the duty with your outstanding camera work! Thanks so much for the pix. They give a real perspective of what it's going to look like.
For us X-Men supporters who are banished to the far reaches of the west coast we are most appreciative. By the way it was nudging 39 celcius here yesterday and today is even hotter. But we have those nice Pacific breezes to cool us down as opposed the howling Nor Easters that you guys get.

Ah, 'tis good to live in God's country (said he as he cracked another bottle Guinness).

By the way, I hear through my sources that the annual X-Men Vancouver Barbecue and Bun Toss was held on Sunday and a cracking good time was had by all. Some talk of certain people succumbing to sunstroke but the reality is it was over-indulgence in Alexander Keith's best brew.

I am hoping to make the trek out to the 'Nish this fall to take in a couple of games. What do I have to do to gain entrance into the august inner circle that hangs out in the beer tent?

There's turf on the field! They appear to be starting with the 5 yard line. Or maybe it's the 10.

It's the goal line when X has the ball...

Have to agree with you, unfortunately. X played that game like they KNEW they couldn't win it. Sad. The fact that X held SMU to a 1 point game in the previous Loney Bowl and 2 points in the last one showed, IMHO, that the team had the "tools" to have a better showing against the R&O.

But it's all in the past. A new season is starting soon with a lot of new stuff (coaches, recruits, ATTITUDE, ETC...) and we'll see how the X-Men TEAM deals with the changes.

I see X at 5 - 3 in the regular season. God only knows how they'll do in the play-offs.

Let's spin this top some more. "They lost twice as bad last year as they did the year before"

Can't argue that logic, CJ...

But this season being a "new awakening" for X for numerous reasons, I truly hope that they (the vets), individually and collectively, had a taste of what "could have been"

The great thing with CIS football is that every team, whether they like it or not, has to look at a new season with the perspective that all teams are starting at Square One. Survival of the fittest is the only way to make it through the stages leading to the VC. IMRO, X does not deserve to be in the top 10 either today nor until the 6th game of the season. We'll see where they rate then (looking for a crossed finger figure)...

All I will venture to say at this point is that X will make the play-offs. It's not much but, in a 4 team conference, the odds are in their favour, considering ...
