MMR vaccine may protect against COVID-19, researchers suggest - some potentially good news

A growing body of evidence suggests that live attenuated vaccines like the MMR vaccine, which contain a weakened form of the germ that causes a disease, may go beyond providing immunity to the targeted pathogen and can potentially bolster the body’s response to unrelated future infections.This happens, researchers say, because the vaccines can trigger a response called “trained innate immunity,” which prepares a certain type of immune system cells called leukocytes to respond more effectively against infection.

Agree. With all the protests and crowds not wearing masks, people at the beaches, etc, this certainly helped spread the virus. Many states are now experiencing a spike in cases/outbreaks after the protests.
Dr. Fauci and others had warned that it would. Considering NY who originally had the highest amount of cases, is now at the lowest. they're obsioulsly doing something right.
It was obvious after those protests that the spike in cases was going to happen.

We're getting closer toward finding a cure/vaccine

Just want to say... CIS/RSEQ and Football Quebec/Canada may operate under different rules. As far as I know, one doesn't govern the other.

It's a little more complicated than that.

CEGEP coaches will be members of FQ and FC in the coming year. CEGEP teams are members of FQ, which affiliates them with FC but they are not individual registrants. RSEQ is member of FQ, and assigns funds to FQ applied to their membership. RSEQ sits on the BoD of FQ. When CEGEP players play at a national or international level they still need to become registrants of FC.

There is no formal relationship between USPORTS and FC. FC is striving to establish this through an associate membership measure which should be passed July 2 at our AGM.

*First, and most importantly, I hope you and your families are staying safe during these unprecedented times.

Secondly, I would like to acknowledge the front-line and essential workers who have been working tirelessly to keep all of us safe and if one of your loved ones or neighbors are on the front line, please do thank them for their efforts.

Despite the pandemic, the football team has been hard at work.*Before*the COVID-19 shutdown, we finished our spring camp and we were very pleased with the outcome. We had a lot of competition and saw younger players take that step we expected them to take. We also had a chance to evaluate some of our new recruits that started in January and we were happy with what we saw as well.

We are extremely proud of how our players performed in the classroom this year. We finished the semester extremely well considering everything that was going on. We held virtual study hall periods with our players to make sure they were transitioning to online learning properly. Our annual GPA for 2019/20 is 2.68/4.33 and we had 16 players achieve a GPA over 3.0.*

We are also continuing our strength and conditioning during these trying times. We hold virtual workouts twice a week and have given our team a workout plan that was adapted to being home without proper equipment.

Our strength and conditioning coaches, Guillaume Bourassa and Seydou Jr. Haidara, worked tirelessly to get the new program out to our players so that we would continue to build on our team’s hard work during the off-season. It is not the same as being in the gym or on the field together but we are making the most of it and our players have once again bought in and are not letting anything get in their way.

Although our national league, U SPORTS, has cancelled all fall championships — this includes the Uteck, Mitchell Bowls and the Vanier Cup — and the Atlantic University Sports (AUS), OUA (Ontario University Athletics) and Canada West leagues have already announced the cancelation of their fall activities, we are nonetheless hopeful that we will be able to compete this fall. The Réseau du sport étudiant du Québec (RSEQ) has not yet made its final decision so we continue to work on different return-to-play protocols so that we are prepared for when we get the green light to resume activities and compete in the fall.

In front of the massive reduction in the number of new cases, active cases and deaths in the province over the last few weeks, the Québec government has just re-authorized almost everything except three things: large gatherings over 50 people, holiday camps where kids sleep over and combat sport.

All the rest, from restaurants, to stores, bars, professional and amateurs sports, aquatic parks, tourist attractions, casinos, spas, pools, hotels and motels, you name it, is now permitted. Soccer and baseball players are starting to play real games once again (even my old-timer softball league in a week or so!), so really, I see absolutely no reasons why there wouldn't be a high school, cégep and university football season this Fall, two months from now.

Although the university football leagues in Ontario, the Maritimes and Western Canada have cancelled their seasons and there will be no Vanier Cup this year, no decision has been made by the Réseau du sport étudiant du Québec (RSEQ), so the possibility exists of playing a season.

“We’re happy the RSEQ is taking its time and giving us an opportunity to see where the virus and situation goes,” Iadeluca said. “The longer we wait, the more of a chance we may have. At the same time, with this virus, we don’t know what’s going to happen.

“A few weeks ago, I was maybe a little more pessimistic. It’s been positive the last few weeks with the situation in Quebec. I never thought, a few weeks ago, we’d be back on the field as of Monday. Things are evolving and we’re moving forward,” he added. “It’s hard to have an opinion. We’re staying positive and preparing the guys in case we do have a season.”
