Big plays put an end to the University of Windsor Lancersí hopes of opening the OUA football season with back-to-back wins.

The Lancers conceded a pair of touchdowns of plays of 75 yards or more and another over 50 yards in a 54-26 road loss to the University of Toronto Varsity Blues on Sunday.

Windsor trailed by a field goal entering the final quarter, but Toronto (1-1) scored 35 points in the final quarter to pull away from the Lancers (1-1).

Lancersí quarterback Sam Girard completed 23-of-36 passes for 333 yards and a pair of touchdowns.

Girard hit Carson Ouellette with an eight-yard touchdown pass with less than two minutes to play in the first half that gave the Lancers a 13-12 lead. Girard also hit Kaeden Walls, who had 106 yards receiving on eight catches, with a 26-yard touchdown pass while kicker Griffin Fenton converted both scores and added field goals of 19, 16,11 and 39 yards.
