    Default Week 8

    OFFICIAL HOLLYWOOD TOP 27 - WEEK 8

Week 8 is done, and only 2 weeks are left in the regular season. Last week the rankings were motivated by the comparison of Tool Time girls Lisa and Heidi. This week, we need the age-old battle of brunette vs. blonde.

    STEP 2: REGIONAL RANKINGS

The rankings show each team's conference record followed by their overall record. The games marked # are non-conference games. The games marked * are games against a jabroni. The games marked ĝ were reversed in league standings.

Tika or Natalia? Together they bring us the CW.

    CANADA WEST

1 Calgary (6-0, 6-1) beat Alta Reg Man Sask UBC Man lost Reg#
2 Regina (4-2, 4-2) beat Cal# UBC Alta Sask Alta lost Cal Man
3 UBC (4-2, 5-2) beat Alta# Man Sask Alta Sask lost Reg Cal
4 Saskatchewan (2-4, 2-5) beat Man Alta lost McM# UBC Cal Reg UBC
5 Alberta (1-5, 1-6) beat Man lost UBC# Cal Sask Reg UBC Reg
6 Manitoba (1-5, 1-5) beat Reg lost Sask UBC Cal Alta Cal

After some major scares, the higher ranked teams hung on for wins and the rankings stand pat.

Ola and Elaine bring us the OUA.

    ONTARIO

1 W. Ontario (7-0, 7-0) beat York* Gue McM Wind* Que Laur Carl
2 McMaster (6-1, 7-1) beat Sask# Carl Ott Gue York* Tor* Wind* lost UWO
3 Ottawa (5-2, 5-2) beat Gue Que York* Wind* Wat lost McM Carl
4 Guelph (4-3, 6-3) beat SFX# MtA# Wind* Tor* Wat Laur lost Ott UWO McM
5 Laurier (5-2, 5-3) beat Tor* Carl Que Wat York* lost Con# UWO Gue
6 Carleton (3-4, 3-5) beat Que Ott Tor* lost Lav# McM Laur Wat UWO
7 Queen's (3-4, 4-4) beat McG# Wind* Wat York* lost Car Ott Laur UWO
8 Waterloo (4-4, 4-4) beat Wind* York* Tor* Carl lost Laur Gue Que Ott
9 York (1-6, 1-7) beat Tor* lost Sher# UWO Wat Ott McM Laur Que
10 Toronto (1-6, 1-7) beat Wind* lost Mtl# Lau Wat Gue York* McM Carl
11 Windsor (0-7, 0-7) lost Wat Tor* Gue UWO Ott Que McM

The big fly in the ointment (which makes rankings interesting) is Guelph's win over Laurier. That result makes a six-team “loop”. That loop has two sub-sets. Ottawa beat Guelph, who beat Laurier. No loop there because Laurier has not beaten (nor played) Ottawa. The lower sub-set has just one win over the upper sub-set (Carleton over Ottawa). So Carleton has something to bump them above their loop, and Queen's beat Waterloo in head-to-head, thus completing the ranking. For what its worth, these are the records of the mid-level against one another:

    Ott 3-1
    Laur 3-1
    Gue 2-1
    Carl 2-2
    Que 1-3
    Wat 1-4

Chrissy and Zienna take us to the RSEQ.

    QUEBEC

1 Montreal (5-0-1, 6-0-1) beat Tor# Con Lav Sher McG Sher can Con
2 Laval (5-1, 6-1) beat Car# Sher McG Con McG Sher lost Mtl
3 Concordia (3-3-1, 4-3-1) beat Lau# Sher McG McG lost Mtl Lav Sher can Mtl
4 McGill (1-5, 1-6) beat Sher lost Que# Lav Con Mtl Lav Con
5 Sherbrooke (1-6, 2-5) beat York# Con lost Lav Con McG Mtl Lav Mtl

The game cancellation is bizarre. Otherwise nothing happened to change these rankings.

Josephine and Nicola are big fans of the AUS.

    ATLANTIC

1 Saint Mary's (6-0, 7-0) beat Aca# SFXĝ Bish Aca MtA SFX Bish
2 Acadia (5-2, 5-3) beat Bish SFX MtA Bish SFX lost SMU# MtA SMU
3 Mount Allison (2-4, 3-5) beat SFX# Aca SFX lost Gue# SFX Bish SMU Aca

5 Bishop's (1-5, 1-5) beat MtA lost Aca SMU SFX Aca SMU

Like the CW and Q, nothing happened in the A to alter rankings at all.

    STEP 3: THE BLEND

Kyra and Karin illustrate that some decisions are too close to call.

    "CONTENDERS"
1 Calgary (6-0, 6-1) beat Alta Reg Man Sask UBC Man lost Reg#
2 Montreal (5-0-1, 6-0-1) beat Tor# Con Lav Sher McG Sher can Con

18 Waterloo (4-4, 4-4) beat Wind* York* Tor* Carl lost Laur Gue Que Ott
19 Acadia (5-2, 5-3) beat Bish SFX MtA Bish SFX lost SMU# MtA SMU
20 McGill (1-5, 1-6) beat Sher lost Que# Lav Con Mtl Lav Con
21 Mount Allison (2-4, 3-5) beat SFX# Aca SFX lost Gue# SFX Bish SMU Aca
22 St. F.X. (2-5, 2-7) beat MtA Bish lost Gue# MtA# SMUĝ Aca SMU MtA Aca
23 Sherbrooke (1-6, 2-5) beat York# Con lost Lav Con McG Mtl Lav Mtl
24 Bishop's (1-5, 1-5) beat MtA lost Aca SMU SFX Aca SMU

    "JABRONIS"
25 York (1-6, 1-7) beat Tor* lost Sher# UWO Wat Ott McM Laur Que
26 Toronto (1-6, 1-7) beat Wind* lost Mtl# Lau Wat Gue York* McM Carl
27 Windsor (0-7, 0-7) lost Wat Tor* Gue UWO Ott Que McM

The OUA shuffle moved some teams around. Plus the march to the end of the season confirms where a lot of teams belong. I have consolidated The Blob, but for now at least McMaster and Regina are by themselves as “near contenders”.

    NEXT UP

    Oct 21 U.B.C. Manitoba
    Oct 21 Saskatchewan Alberta
    Oct 21 Calgary Regina
    Oct 21 Guelph Carleton
    Oct 21 McMaster Laurier

    Oct 21 Ottawa W. Ontario
    Oct 21 Montreal Laval
    Oct 21 Sherbrooke McGill
    Oct 21 Saint Mary's Acadia
    Oct 21 Mount Allison Bishop's

With the season running out, it's party time for everyone!
