The Lancer Football program, along with head coach Joe D'Amore, are pleased to announce the hiring of Vince Flamia as the team's new Special Teams / Recruiting Coordinator.
A native of Sarnia, ON, Flamia joins the Lancers after spending two seasons with the OUA's Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks as their defensive backs and special teams assistant coach.
"We are extremely excited to add Vince to our staff as he will bring outstanding energy to our recruiting and special team," said D'Amore. "He has paid his dues the last two years as an assistant under Coach Cameron at Laurier and has learned a lot. We are looking forward to getting him in the office full time and getting to work. "
Completing his undergraduate degree with Wilfrid Laurier, Flamia played two seasons with the Golden Hawks in 2005 & 2006, capturing the Yates Cup and Vanier Cup in his rookie season.
After earning his teaching degree at the University of Windsor in 2010, Flamia attended Ohio University where he completed his Master of Science in Coaching Education and Sport Sciences while also serving as the school's graduate assistant/safeties assistant with the Bobcat football program for the 2014 & 2015 seasons.
"We are pleased to add Vince Flamia to the Lancers football coaching staff in the role of special teams and recruiting coordinator," commented Director of Athletics Mike Havey. "Vince brings a range of post-secondary, secondary and age group coaching experiences with him to his new role with the Lancers. And, in addition to his experience, Vince brings a high level of passion and innovation. We are excited to add him to the team."
From 2011-14, Flamia served as head coach of the St. Thomas More Collegiate football team losing only four games during his time with the program. He has also previously served as defensive coordinator for the St. Christopher's football team, and the defensive backs coach for the Lambton Lions of the OVFL.
With the Lancers, Flamia will serve as the special teams coordinator and will also be the team's lead in recruiting.
"It's an absolute pleasure to join the Lancers Football program," said Flamia. "Coach D'Amore, along with the administration, is committed to winning at the University of Windsor and I am excited to be part of the pursuit for excellence across the board when it comes to Lancer Athletics."
Flamia has great appreciation and gratitude to the Laurier coaching staff who helped play a key role in his development. "I would not be with Windsor today if it wasn't for the tremendous leadership and mentorship I received from Coaches Michael Faulds, Dwayne Cameron, and Ron VanMoerkerke at Laurier," Flamia continued. "They were very influential over me as a coach, and I want to thank them for everything they did to help me get here, to this position, today."
