Women's University Rugby. Concordia triumphs

Concordia defeated Université Laval 17-5 in Quebec City to capture its first Quebec league championship since 1998. Mélanie Tranchemontagne and Larissa Andrusyshyn scored tries for the Stingers, and Patricia Lapierre added a pair of converts and a penalty kick. The Stingers advance to the CIS championship tourney Nov. 2-4 in London, Ont.

I don't follow Women's Rugby in other conferences, but isn't that some kind of upset?

An upset, not really. Last year was the real upset when R&O rugby girls won the Q at their 2nd season.

This year being Laval 3rd year is the beginning of an awesome rivalry

The StFX Women's Rugby team and CIAU defending champs, have just dominated their Atlantic conference opponents once again this year to win their 10th consecutive AUAA championship. As a result, they are heading back to the CIAU championship hosted by UWO and held here in London this weekend, from Nov. 1 - 4

All games will be played at the

St. Georges Rugby Field, 4308 Dundas Street Thorndale, ON (15 minutes outside London East on old Hwy 2)

The St. Fx Alumni, London Chapter, will be holding a reception at the Four Points Sheraton (1150 Wellington Road South) in one of their conference rooms this coming Friday, Nov 2, at 7:30 PM.

I encourage X alumni & fans to attend this reception, meet the team, show your support and show that X-spirit of course! The Twins will be there.

LONDON, Ont. (CIS) - St. Francis Xavier University second-year fullback / winger Ghislaine Landry is the Canadian Interuniversity Sport women's rugby player of the year for the 2007 season.

A native of Toronto, Landry claims a second CIS major award in as many years after capturing rookie-of-the-year honours in 2006, and becomes the first StFX female athlete in any sport to be named CIS MVP.

The X-Women fell 5-3 to the Lethbridge Pronghorns in the semi-finals.

Western defeated Guelph 26-5 in the other semi-final.

Lethbridge will face-off against the hometown Mustangs for the CIS gold medal tomorrow afternoon, while Guelph and St. FX will play for bronze.

In the bronze medal game, Guelph defeated the X-Women 20-17.

Meanwhile, Lethbridge captured their first ever CIS women's rugby championship with a 15-10 gold-medal victory over the tournament host Western Ontario Mustangs.

Congrats to all the girls on a season well played.
